“Recently the Monterey Jazz Festival lost one of its special people and guiding lights. Myron “Doc” Etienne was a board member and past President for the Monterey Jazz Festival for over 50 years. He helped establish and lead the organization through thick & thin with his special blend of wisdom, respect, tenacity & humor. He was a special friend to me and he was extremely passionate about our education programs and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra in particular. He participated in several tours to Japan with the group and always marveled at the skill of our young musicians. For this reason and many more, we would like to dedicate today’s performance of the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra in Doc’s memory”
